Homemade Cinnamon Apple Sauce

This is a mommy favourite, I do however suggest not starting apple sauce or any high fibre fruits or veggies till after the first couple weeks of solids. Why I suggest this is because when you start your baby off on solids, you must also remember to start them on a daily intake of filtered, clean water. Now that they are starting to eat solid food, including soluble and insoluble fibres, babies need this extra liquid to keep their little colons running smoothly, and efficiently eliminating their “first foods”

I unfortunately learned this the hard way, we spent a very long Christmas Eve helping our little one eliminate with a very congested colon. Heart breaking 🙁 – Let your babes get use to solid food and drinking water. Very ripe bananas create their own mucosal pathway down the colon and is easy to eliminate (make sure the bananas are ripe or they can cause the opposite effect and cause constipation) egg yolks, bone broths, liver, avocados are another great first foods. The first month of baby solids is a fun one, make sure you keep an eye on your little ones for sensitivities, allergies or discomfort from these new foods by doing a 4 day rotation the first months.

Enjoy this homemade cinnamon apple sauce in smoothies, baking and breakfast for yourself too!

Ingredients
  1. 6 of your favourite apples peeled, cored and chopped into chunks
  2. 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  3. 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  4. Pinch sea salt
Instructions
  1. Peel, core and cut your apples into chunks
  2. Place the apple pieces into a warmed sauce pan
  3. Toss in the cinnamon, lemon juice and sea salt
  4. Keep your sauce pan on medium heat and let the apples begin to simmer
  5. Keep an eye on them, while stirring every few minutes - turn down to medium/low
  6. After 20-25 minutes you can mash them with a potato masher or the back of a fork
  7. If you want them smoother, you can puree them in a food processor
Notes
  1. Every apple can behave differently while under heat. Some apples may soften and break down quicker than others. Macintosh, Golden Delicious and Galas are a favourite in this house.
