Morning Berry Smoothie Magic

 

IMG_6635This berry smoothie is both delicious and easy for the morning rush. It supplies electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, probiotics for your gut and colon health, high fibre to help regularity, omega-3, (an essential fatty-acid that’s been shown to be lacking in our diets) antioxidants to help fight off free radical damage throughout the day and protein to help stabilize your blood sugar till lunch time. Eating first thing in the morning will help keep your blood sugar running smoothly without the lows and highs during the day. This in itself can help prevent numerous diseases, including diabetes.

Enjoy this quick delicious smoothie regularly, even with your kids.

A creamy smoothie with protein and lots of antioxidants to start your day.

Ingredients
  1. 1 cup nut milk
  2. 1 cup coconut water
  3. 1 banana
  4. 1 1/2 cup mixed berry (cranberry, black berry, blue berries, raspberries)
  5. 1/2 cup plain kefir (homemade or a good quality store bought)
  6. 1 tbsp. freshly ground flax (I grind mine from whole seeds and store in the fridge)
  7. pinch unrefined sea/kelp or Himalayan salt
Instructions
  1. place ingredients in a blender (I use a vita-mix) and blend on high for 20 seconds until smooth.
Notes
  1. You can definitely use other fruits like cherries, pears, plums or strawberries.
  2. If you do not have nut milk, you can use 2 cups coconut water and if you want 1 heaping tbsp. of a creamy almond butter.
  3. Feel free to add in raw pastured eggs for extra protein and nutrition.
  4. Instead of the kefir, you can add a good quality probiotic, plain yogurt
